Carisbrook Lions Club’s Christmas With Us event continues to get bigger each year, with this year’s Christmas lunch catering for over 300 people.

The free event has been running for nearly 25 years in an attempt to provide a friendly and festive environment for those who have nowhere to go for Christmas.

This year’s event marks the largest in its history, with guests at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club receiving a two course meal including dessert, various forms of entertainment and a present for everyone that attended.

Lions club president Jefferson Hoober is thrilled the event continues to be a festive success, even with the growing crowds each year.

“It was a very successful day, everything went well with no issues or hiccups, we supplied over 300 meals on the day to visitors and for all of the volunteers, with 20 take-away meals to people who couldn’t make it,” he said.

“Everyone went home happy with their presents after being entertained and a full tummy.”

Mr Hoober said the annual event continues to showcase the level of support in the community during a time of togetherness.

“It is important that no one is home lonely during Christmas — its amazing and you get emotional when you see people smiling and come up to you and thank you for the event,” he said

“The donations and support we receive is unbelievable, all of our members, the volunteers and sponsors that jumped on board make these events possible, and that money and support can continue to go back into our local community.

“Thanks for everyone for supporting this great lions club in a great community and lets do it again next year.”
