Avoca now has 24-hour access to fuel thanks to a new automated system at Gollop’s Garage on High Street, something that was much-needed for the area the garage’s Anthony Gollop says.
With the next 24-hour station at least 30 minutes away, Mr Gollop said it made sense to set up the all-hours system.
“It’s been well supported by the town so far, and I can just see it getting busier and busier. It’s been more positive than we thought it’d be,” he said.
“The town is growing and we felt there was a need to offer it after hours.
“We close at 6 pm and occasionally we’d get a call of a night time from someone wanting fuel after hours, so we decided to go ahead with it.”
The station provides all fuel including unleaded, diesel and VPower 98.
After hours, the new pay station machine allows drivers to type in their pump number, enter the amount of fuel required and pay.
During opening hours, payment can still be made in-store.
“It’s very simple to use, and along with your usual debit and credit cards, it takes Shell Card and Motorpass,” Mr Gollop said.
“Unlike other machines, it also only takes the dollar amount you’ve used — if you put in $100, and you only use $80 of fuel, some other machines take the full $100 and refund the change in a few days, whereas ours only takes the amount used, even if you’ve put in more.”
