Providing a range of health services to the community, local allied health workers are being celebrated this week in recognition of their contribution to the wellbeing of all residents.
The Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) is marking the annual Allied Health Professionals Day on October 14 by highlighting the work undertaken by its dietitians, exercise physiologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, counsellors, housing and social workers.
With about 40 allied health professionals on-board at the hospital, the day is an opportunity to show gratitude for the work they do according to MDHS CEO Nickola Allan.
“I’m very excited — I love a day where we can celebrate our workforce and these days are really important to shed a light on the work that our individual clinicians do to connect our community to great care,” she said.
“It’s about recognising the efforts of our allied health professionals that work and support not only our community but our internal staff as well.
“They’re such a valued part of our workforce and they also ensure that our community stays well and healthy. It’s incredibly important for the town to have them because without them we’re not providing a holistic model of care and we want to give our community the very best because that’s what they deserve.”
MDHS is also celebrating one year since the Health and Movement Centre moved to High Street Maryborough.
The allied health team offers group exercise and health coaching programs at the centre, with approximately 750 community members benefiting from these services in the last 12 months.
The centre also offers a cancer wellness program to support physical and social wellbeing for people on their cancer journey.
