Central Goldfields Shire councillors have adopted the organisation’s annual action plan for the financial year, listing seven major infrastructure projects for the year ahead.

Councillors moved to adopt the new plan at the recent ordinary council meeting, flagging ongoing upgrades to the Maryborough Outdoor Pool, completion of the Carisbrook Recreation Reserve and the Central Goldfields Art Gallery as key priorities for the organisation.

Other priority infrastructure projects include completion of stage two of the Maryborough Railway Station activation project, restoration of the Maryborough Town Hall, construction of the skate and scooter park and progress on the Talbot Futures Project.

According to the plan, there are 88 new initiatives for the organisation to work on over the next financial year, ranging from introducing a new play spaces strategy to completing an analysis of affordable housing needs.

Introducing the motion to adopt the new plan, councillor Wayne Sproull said the document was used to keep council accountable.

“The annual action plan documents the programs, projects, advocacy work and services council will deliver during the financial year,” he said.

“This plan ties in the quarterly progress report and annual report, as well as aligning with the council plan.

“There is no legislation requiring council to do this, but this makes things easier to manage and increases council’s transparency and accountability.

“Some of the highlights for council over the previous 12 months in this updated plan are launching the youth council, continuing to support the World Heritage bid, council’s reconciliation plan, continued advocacy for improved digital connectivity and the station activation project, to name a few.”
