The Central Goldfields Shire will soon be about 500 trees richer as of this Friday, with local students getting ready to mark national Schools Tree Day.
On July 26, landscaping organisation, ASQ, is hoping to nurture a love “for gardening and sustainability” in kids from the Maryborough Education Centre (MEC), Carisbrook Primary School and St Augustine’s Primary School.
Supporting the country-wide tree planting day on home soil, ASQ will donate close to two hundred and fifty trees to the schools — with a similar number donated by the community through the company’s Plant It Forward campaign.
“A tree for a tree” is the motto of ASQ’s initiative, which seeks to match each donated tree with an additional tree.
The six-week long campaign, now nearing its end, has led to the donation of 490 trees.
“It’s a great initiative,” ASQ Maryborough site manager Matthew Sinclair said.
“By teaming up with schools, we’re not only promoting a love for the environment in the younger generation but we’re also greening-up the schools.
“We’re planting 30 trees at the Carisbrook school, 200 at MEC, 60 at St Augustine’s and we’re also planting 200 trees at ASQ along the Pyrenees Highway.”
Donations for trees are open until Thursday, July 25 and can be made by visiting ASQ.net.au
