Asteria workers Ashleigh Pike and Lucy Chalmers have been acknowledged by the Central Goldfields Shire Council as part of the 2023 Youth Fest celebrations.
Ms Pike and Ms Chalmers were both nominated by Asteria for their work in disability support and admin management respectively.
Ms Pike, who runs poetry and physical exercise support classes at the organisation said working at Asteria has been a very satisfying career choice.
“I didn’t know what I wanted to do at university, so I started here, volunteering at first, not expecting a lot but it has been really good,” Ms Pike said.
Asteria planning and community liaison Claire De Natris sang the girls praises for their dedication and attitude.
“They have happily put their hands up for a variety of roles at Asteria — to see them step up like that at their age is amazing,” Ms De Natris said.
“We would like to have more young people join us, it might not be people’s first choice, but you can get some real enjoyment and fulfilment from it.”
Ms Chalmers and Ms Pike join 27 other nominees in the local community who were awarded for their academic performances, participation in the community, sporting achievements and volunteering.
All nominees were young people aged between 10 to 25 and were nominated by local community groups for their contributions.
Mayor Liesbeth Long congratulated the award recipients, and spoke on the importance of recognising the future generation.
“We need to showcase the next generation publicly as they are vital with all of their participation in the community,” she said.
