Works on Avoca’s new ambulance station are expected to begin in the coming weeks after Bowden Corporation was officially appointed as the contractor for the project this week.

A new Avoca station was first announced in July 2022, with the town one of 15 across the state set to receive a new facility.

Avoca’s new build will feature a three-bay garage for ambulances, two rest and recline areas for paramedics, relievers’ quarters, training facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and improved security and car parking.

“The brand-new Avoca station will provide a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for our hard-working ambos to do what they do best — save lives,” Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said.

“The appointment of Bowden Corporation to construct the new station is an exciting step in this project and I can’t wait to see works start in the next few weeks.”

Once completed, Avoca paramedics will relocate from their current premises on Liebig Street to the new station which will be located on Rowe Street.

Bowden Corporation is a Victorian company which specialises in commercial construction valued up to $20 million — they have already started works on other ambulance stations including at Inglewood.

The project is part of the State Government’s approximately $279 million investment since 2015 to upgrade and rebuild ambulance stations.
