Avoca finally broke through for their first victory since round four when they defeated Campbells Creek by 31 points on Saturday.

In what was an entertaining first half that was effectively goal-for-goal, Campbells Creek led by two points at half time, while four goals apiece from both teams saw the Magpies lead by the barest of margins at the long break as they looked to score their second win of the season.

But the third quarter saw Avoca take control and push the lead out to 15 points at the final change, before proceeding to hold the Creekers scoreless in the final term while adding two goals themselves to secure a much-needed victory.

Avoca veteran Karl Lewicki was named as their best player in what could be his final game for the Bulldogs. Others to play well were Nick Coghlan, who was the match-winner with six goals, while Joel Antonio, Scott Cawthan, Zac Lubeek and Trent Monk were others that played well for the Bulldogs.

Nick O’Brien and Dylan Stevens were prominent for Creek, as were Sean Moss, Joel Wootton, Jamie Benbow and Jyanni Pollard, with Mitch Stevens kicking four goals in the loss.
