AVOCA (70) def MALDON (37)

Avoca continued to show that they are the team to beat, defeating Maldon by 33 goals on Saturday at Avoca Public Park.

The Bulldogs were able to get a fast start, and were never headed as they continued to shift gears throughout the game.

With the Maryborough Giants losing to Natte Bealiba, the Bulldogs are now a game ahead of the chasing pack.

It was a 17-goal to nine start for the Bulldogs, with Maddy Egan signalling her intent early with 15 goals for the quarter, while Gina Beavis added two. For Maldon, Alexandra Cummins scored five goals, while Zoe Backway scored four.

It was a similar story in the second term, with the Bulldogs again adding 17 goals, while Maldon added eight, to see the ladder-leaders lead 34-17 at the main break. Beavis scored nine for the Bulldogs, and Egan eight, while for the Dons, Katie Tong shifted to goal attack and scored five goals, while Cummins added three.

The third quarter was Maldon at their most competitive, as they scored 13 goals, but the Bulldogs were still able to increase the lead to 19 at the last change, 51-30, thanks to another 17 goals of their own. Egan scored 16 of those goals, while for the Dons, Tong scored seven and Cummins six.

The final quarter was all the Bulldogs as they scored 19 goals to seven to make it a comfortable victory. Egan scored 17 goals to make it 56 for the afternoon, while Beavis added two. For the Dons, Tong scored four goals to finish with 16 goals, while Cummins added three to lead the way with 17 goals.
