Avoca will head into the final bye of the season full of confidence after securing a 49-goal victory over Campbells Creek at Avoca Public Park.

The Bulldogs will now need to defeat Navarre in the final round to not only complete an unbeaten home-and-away campaign, but also secure top spot on the ladder.

The first quarter saw the Bulldogs make the fast start they would have wanted, scoring 23 goals to seven to open up a 16-goal break at the first change. Maddy Egan scored 13 goals, and Gina Beavis 10 for Avoca, while Lillie Wrigley scored five goals and Molly Kennedy two for Campbells Creek.

To Campbells Creek’s credit, they were able to limit the Bulldogs from scoring at will in the second term, and had their own moments of competitiveness throughout the term.

Nevertheless, Avoca still found a way through to score 15 goals to 11 and extend their lead to 20 goals, leading 38-18. Egan scored nine goals and Beavis six for the Dogs, while Wrigley scored seven goals and Kennedy four for the Magpies.

Avoca continued to tick the scoreboard over, although Campbells Creek were also continuing to fight, and the two put on a high-scoring quarter, with 33 goals between the two teams.

However, the Bulldogs added 21 goals, and Campbells Creek 12, to see Avoca lead 59-30 at the final change. Egan scored 13 goals and Beavis eight for the Bulldogs, while for Campbells Creek, Wrigley scored nine times and Kennedy three.

The Bulldogs were dominant in the final term as they put it all together to score 26 goals to six, with the Avoca midcourt again feeding Egan and Beavis to perfection. Egan would score 16 goals to finish with 51 for the day, while Beavis would score 10 goals to end on 34. For the Magpies, Wrigley would score all six goals to finish with 27 for the afternoon.

Avoca now rests up, while Campbells Creek will be hoping to score a second victory of the season when they host Navarre.
