Avoca cleared away from Trentham after the opening term, taking a 25-goal victory at Trentham Reserve to ensure their quest for an unbeaten home-and-away campaign continued.
The first quarter was a battle for both teams, with goals hard to come by, but it was the Bulldogs who took a narrow lead, leading 10-7. Maddy Egan scored six goals and Gina Beavis four for the Bulldogs, while for the Saints, Jacqui Bell scored five goals and Zahlia Turton two.
The Bulldogs made their move in the second term, scoring 17 goals to 10 to shoot clear, leading 27-17 at the main break. Again, the work of Egan underneath the goal ring was providing great trouble to her opposition, and she was able to score 12 goals for the quarter, while Beavis added three. The Saints made wholesale changes in an attempt to keep themselves in the game, with Tarnee Hammond scoring nine goals for the term and Turton one.
Avoca continued on their way in the third term as their ball movement through the midcourt was too much, given their regular theme throughout the season, scoring another 15 goals to eight to lead 42-25 at the final change. Egan added another 12 goals, while Beavis scored three for the Dogs, while for the Saints, Hammond and Bell scored four goals apiece.
As has been a common theme throughout the year, the Bulldogs continued to shift up gears as the game reached its conclusion, and this one was no exception, scoring 14 goals to four to finish off the game. Egan scored another 10 goals to finish with 40 for the day, while Beavis added four more for the Bulldogs to finish with 16.
For the Saints, Turton scored two goals to finish with five goals, while Bell added four to finish with 13, while Hammond also finished with 13 for the day.
The Bulldogs are still one game clear of Natte Bealiba, and will be favoured to continue their winning run when they host bottom team Campbells Creek next week, while Trentham are now two games outside the top eight, and will be desperate to defeat Harcourt to keep their slim finals chances alive.
