Avoca’s charge towards top spot and an unbeaten home-and-away campaign continued with a strong 38-goal victory over Harcourt.

It was the midcourt domination which allowed the Bulldogs to simply suffocate the Lions throughout the day, only allowing 21 goals.

The Bulldogs got away to a flyer, scoring 16 goals to four to ensure they had control of the game from the outset. Maddy Egan scored 11 goals, while the returning Gina Beavis scored five goals for the Bulldogs, while for Harcourt, Jess Chaplin scored twice, and Rhian Selwood and Tegan McKay scored once apiece.

The scoring dried up a touch in the second quarter as Harcourt were able to generate more looks at goal than they did in the first term, yet Avoca were proving as efficient as ever, making the most of their chances in front of goal, scoring 13 goals to five to increase their lead to 20 goals, 29-9 at the main break. Egan scored on 12 occasions, while Beavis scored one goal, while for the Lions, McKay scored three goals and Selwood two.

The Bulldogs’ third quarter was their best of the day as they moved the ball with ease, scoring 20 goals to four to make it a very comfortable 36-goal lead at the final change, 49-13. Egan was again a force under the goals, scoring 14 goals, while Beavis added six, while for the Lions, McKay and Selwood scored twice apiece.

To Harcourt’s credit, they ran out the game well, and had more shots than the Bulldogs in the last term, but weren’t quite able to close the gap. Instead, Avoca were more efficient when they went inside their goal third, and scored 10 goals to eight.

Egan finished with nine goals in the final term to make it 46 for the day, while Beavis scored one goal. For the Lions, McKay scored five to finish with 11 for the day, while Chaplin scored three.

The Bulldogs now move on to a clash with Trentham, while Harcourt have the bye.
