Police are investigating a suspicious car fire in Barr Street, Maryborough on Monday, with the blaze threatening a home.
Emergency services were called to the property just before midday on Monday to reports of a vehicle fire, with black billowing smoke seen from across town.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle, which was parked at the rear of a property between two units, fully engulfed in flame.
Maryborough Fire Brigade Captain Darryl Wagstaff said the heat from the fire was so intense it had smashed a neighbouring property’s window.
“The vehicle was completely engulfed when we arrived, it took two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus around 15 minutes to extinguish it,” he said.
“The car itself was parked behind one unit and because of the intensity of the fire, was threatening to impinge on the second property.
“The heat was so intense it had cracked the front window of that property.
“It’s fortunate the vehicle was parked in an open space and not in a car port because the intense heat would have caused the fire to easily spread to that house.”
Police established a temporary road block in Barr Street for around an hour while the fire was contained and investigations began.
Paramedics also assessed several people at the scene however it’s understood there were no injuries recorded.
Central Goldfields Crime Investigation Unit detectives are currently investigating the incident and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
