Central Goldfields Shire residents will gather next Thursday to celebrate all that makes the community special, with Australia Day ceremonies scheduled for each town in the shire.

As with past years, Australia Day services will be dotted throughout the Central Goldfields Shire next Thursday, January 26, with towns in the shire hosting their own event.

The largest service will be held in Maryborough, with a free breakfast and children’s activities starting at 8.30 am at the Station Domain followed by official proceedings at 9.15 am, where the shire’s Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Award of the Year will be announced.

The event will also include a citizenship ceremony where new residents will become Australian citizens. Medallions will be presented to all babies born in 2022 and books will be presented to four-year-old children starting kindergarten this year.

In Talbot, an Australia Day breakfast will be underway from 8 am at the Talbot Soldiers Memorial Park in Heales Street.

The Australia Day service in Carisbrook will kick off with a barbecue at 10.30 am before proceedings start at 11 at Market Reserve, where the Tilly Aston Achievement Awards and Mayor for the Day award will be distributed.

Tony Macer will be guest speaker at the event, with local school students involved and former Young Citizen of the Year Jackson Barby to act as Australia Day Ambassador for the event.

Dunolly will also have a barbecue from 10 am in the Gordon Gardens before the official service starts at 10.45, with councillor Liesbeth Long speaking and awards, including Dunolly’s Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year handed out.

Daisy Hill’s service will take place from 11 am at the Daisy Hill Community Centre, where councillor Chris Meddows-Taylor will speak.

An event will also take place at the Bealiba Town Hall from 11 am Thursday, where a barbecue lunch will be provided and councillor Geoff Lovett will speak.
