Carisbrook will be looking to take a month’s worth of improved form into a clash with second-from-bottom Bacchus Marsh this Sunday at Maddingley Park.

Since the Redbacks returned home after the opening of their club rooms, they have proven to be a competitive outfit, and have been able to put five goals on the board across their previous two matches.

The challenge now is to convert that into a winnable game against the Cobras, with who they had a competitive outing against in their first meeting in round one.

On that occasion, two goals in the second quarter helped the Redbacks storm back into the game after trailing by nine points at quarter time, but the Cobras then kicked six goals to no score to emerge with a 42-point win.

Make no mistake, however, since then, the Redbacks have continued to work on playing alongside one another, and have enjoyed some good moments against teams currently residing in the top four.

Take last week’s second quarter against East Point, for instance. While the Redbacks eventually went down by 62 points, the Redbacks kicked two quick goals in the second quarter to give themselves a fighting chance halfway through that quarter, before East Point flexed their muscle and proved too strong.

Anika Munn continued her stellar season, while Tara Curtis, Olivia Butler, Julianne Baldock, Piper Burge and Jade Cameron also played well.

Meanwhile, the under 16s will be looking to get back on the winners’ list after a heartbreaking three-point loss to East Point on Sunday when they host Redan.

In blustery conditions, East Point made the stronger start by kicking the first goal of the morning to take a nine-point lead into quarter time, but Carisbrook started to fight back by asking questions of the tricolours defenders.

They kicked two points in both the second and third quarters to reduce the margin slightly to seven points at the last change, before a late goal to Mahli Stone late in the game gave the Redbacks some hope of pinching a memorable victory.

However, it was not to be, with East Point holding on to win 1.7 (13) to 1.4 (10).

Emme Johnson was the Lady Redbacks’ best player, ably supported by Tiani Jardine, Imogen Raats, Georgina Bates, Maddison Smith and Peyton Clark.

Carisbrook will be looking to turn around an eight-point loss to Redan earlier in the season to keep their top four chances alive.
