Bottle show to draw a crowd
This weekend, polish off your old collectables, appreciate rare artefacts and join in the excitement at the Maryborough Antique Bottle Show.
A unique range of items will be on display at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club this Saturday and Sunday across 90 displays and a 370-foot-long swap and sell showcase.
Maryborough Antique Bottle Club member and event organiser Steve Greenwood said the 51st annual event is expected to be a corker.
“[Bottle collectors] love coming to Maryborough simply because we are one of the best and biggest shows in the Southern Hemisphere,” he said.
“You can expect anything, you never know what is going to show up, it could be from small trinkets, bottles to even milk testers.
“Someone is bringing in a special collection of Indian dolls for the show and another person is bringing a very rare collection of black glass for people to enjoy.”
Mr Greenwood said he is hopeful to see around 3000 people attend the event to join collectors from around the world in their appreciation for antiques.
“There are some people from New Zealand and America on their way, there are also people from Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland, it’s a very well-represented show,” he said.
“You have different people who come in every year so you have that special companionship with them and I enjoy meeting other bottle collectors and seeing what they do and what they collect.”
The Maryborough Antique Bottle Show will take place at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club this Saturday, August 24 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm and Sunday, August 25 from 9.30 am to 3 pm.
Entry to the show on Saturday is $5 while on Sunday it’s a gold coin donation.
