Avoca celebrated Lucy Walkley’s 400th game in style, marking the occasion with a 19-goal victory over Navarre which sees them maintain a one-game gap over Natte Bealiba on top of the ladder.
The Bulldogs were relentless in their continued pursuit of a perfect season, winning every quarter of the game.
A fast start saw Avoca take an 18-11 lead into the first change, and while challenged by Navarre in the second quarter, it appeared the Bulldogs had all the answers in what was a tightly contested period, scoring 11 goals to 10.
The third quarter was key to Avoca being able to take the game away from the Hoppers, scoring 19 goals to 10 to ensure they would take a 48-31 lead into the final change.
In a largely defensive final quarter, Avoca would ease home, scoring 11 goals to Navarre’s nine to eventually run out 59-40 winners.
In a fitting tribute to her career, Walkley was named in the best players in her milestone game, alongside Maddison Egan and Caitlin Drummond, with Egan’s 37 goals allowing her to play a big part in ensuring the Bulldogs’ big day went to plan.
For Navarre, Sadie Reading, Jacana Gordon and Rachel Wood were named in their best players, while Bek Seeary-Pye scored 30 goals.
