ROYAL PARK (50) def MALDON (41)

Seven more goals or nine fewer goals conceded — that’s how miniscule the margin was between Royal Park and a finals berth in 2022.

It was an agonising finish to decide the last spot in the MCDFNL A grade netball finals, with Bushy needing a fairly comfortable victory to pinch eighth spot at the very last gasp from Newstead. While their nine-goal win was indeed comfortable, it wasn’t quite enough, and they missed out by a measly 0.87 percent.

For the large part, Bushy did everything right. Their first quarter on Saturday saw them outscore Maldon 16 goals to 12 to take a four-goal lead at quarter time, while in a tight second quarter, 14 goals to 12 saw the Tigers extend their lead to six goals by half time.

The third quarter saw Royal Park make their move as they looked to close the gap on Newstead. They scored 13 goals while restricting the Bombers to just four for the quarter, moving ahead by 15 goals at the final change.

However, Maldon had their best quarter in the final quarter, scoring 11 goals while restricting the Tigers to seven goals to ensure they would put some respectability back on the scoreboard on the day, eventually losing 41-50.

The result meant Royal Park finished ninth, while Maldon now focus on their elimination final next weekend against Trentham.

Best players were not provided prior to print deadline.

In a very even goalscoring performance, both Abbey Devereaux and Lucy Morcom scored 25 goals each for the Tigers, while Morgan Walker scored 18 goals for the Bombers to lead the way.
