Lauren Butler will spend a third season in Collingwood’s leadership group.

Butler will be part of a leadership group of seven, with Brianna Davey named the sole captain for a second straight year, while Brit Bonnici, Ruby Schleicher and Jordyn Allen will feature as vice-captains.

Butler, Mikala Cann and Sabrina Frederick round out the group as leaders.

Butler only played four games in 2023, but continued to show her wares as a terrific defender for the Magpies, leading the way for intercept possessions per game with 6.5 per game.

Her best performance of the season came against Brisbane in round six, collecting 11 disposals, which included nine kicks and 156 metres gained.

The opportunity to bring up her 50th game is possible in season 2024, with Butler having played 44 games.

Collingwood general manager of women’s football, Jess Burger, praised Butler on collingwoodfc.com.au.

“Having Lauren and Mikala continue their journey as leaders with us is exciting to see,” she said.

Collingwood’s season will begin in three weeks time, with the Magpies set to make the trip to Sydney for the competition’s opening round on Friday, August 30.
