Carisbrook maintained their top four charge, but had to work to fight off a plucky Dunolly outfit to win by 19 goals at Deledio Reserve on Saturday.
The youthful Eagles gave it everything on Saturday, and were right in the game at quarter time as they trailed by four goals, with Carisbrook leading 13 goals to nine. Andrea Schafer scored nine goals for the Redbacks, while Abbey Nalder added four. At the other end, it was Zoe Aldridge doing all the scoring for Dunolly, scoring nine goals for the term.
A high-scoring second term saw Carisbrook score 14 goals, while Dunolly scored 12, with the Redbacks leading 27-21 at the main break. Both Schafer and Nalder scored seven goals apiece for the Redbacks, while for Dunolly, Aldridge scored eight and Kate Ashman four.
It was the third quarter where the Redbacks cleared away and made the game safe, scoring 15 goals to eight for the term to estabish a 13-goal lead by the last change, 42-29. Nalder scored eight goals for Carisbrook, while Paige McLean added seven, while for the Eagles, Aldridge scored six goals and Ashman two.
The last quarter saw the Redbacks continue to score at a good clip, adding another 15 goals to nine to eventually take their win. Nalder scored eight more goals to finish with 27 for the day, while Schafer scored another seven to finish with 24. For the Eagles, Ashman scored five goals, while Aldridge finished with four to end up with 27 for the day to lead the way.
The Redbacks will now host arguably their most important game of the season when they take on Lexton at home in a battle to test the mettle of their top four credentials, while Dunolly will have a tough task when they take on Natte Bealiba.
