CARISBROOK (54) def NEWSTEAD (32)

Carisbrook are one of three teams that remain unbeaten in 2024 courtesy of a 22-goal victory over Newstead.

The Redbacks started strongly on Saturday, scoring 13 goals to five in the opening term to dictate the direction. Paige McLean scored seven goals, while Andrea Schafer added six, while for Newstead, Tayla Gale scored three goals, and Bri Jury two.

Carisbrook’s riches in the goal third were on show as they were able to call upon Abbey Nalder in the second quarter, scoring 12 of the Redbacks’ 14 goals, with McLean adding the other two. At the other end, Newstead were still keeping the Redbacks honest, scoring 10 goals of their own to keep the margin at 12 goals, with Gale scoring on six occasions, and Jury four.

The third quarter was the most tightly contested of the day, with the Kangaroos looking to stay in the contest, while Carisbrook were looking to put them away. In the end, the quarter went to the Redbacks, as their 13 goals to 12 allowed them to lead 40-27 at the last change. Nalder scored eight goals, while McLean added five for Carisbrook, while Gale scored nine and Jury three for Newstead.

It was all Carisbrook in the last quarter as they were able to blow the margin out beyond 20 goals, scoring 14 goals to five to complete another win. Nalder and McLean scored seven goals each for Carisbrook, with Gale adding four of Newstead’s five goals.

Carisbrook will now move on to a big clash against Lexton, while for Newstead, they will be hoping to get back on the winners list against Maldon.
