As a local theatre group gets ready to stage a musical spin on a beloved Charles Dickens’ novel next year, the call for auditions has been sounded, with performers from the area encouraged to give it a shot.
The Maryborough Theatre Company (MTC) is back after a two year-long pandemic hiatus and the curtains will rise once again for its latest full-scale production since 2021 — Oliver!
Based on the classic Oliver Twist novel, the musical adaptation will be performed over three shows in May 2024, with the committee set to hold auditions for all roles in less than a month.
As part of their casting call, MTC is hosting an Information Night on Tuesday, November 21 from 7.30 pm onwards at The Hub on Burns Street.
The group’s president Quetta Holloway-Jinks said that it was a great opportunity for interested locals to find out more about the show and have questions answered.
“Anyone who wants to be a part of the show is encouraged to come along to meet the director, the committee and other key team members,” she said.
“[You will also] learn about the production timeline including the show and rehearsal dates.
“We welcome anyone of high school age and over to audition. All abilities and the more the merrier. Leads or main roles will be required to formally audition and MTC encourages anyone who wants to give theatre a go to come along and try.”
Auditions will be held over the first weekend in December — bookings are required and can be made on Information Night.
MTC has a strong track record of putting up popular performances for the community including past productions of Sweet Charity, Bye, Bye Birdie, Bonnie and Clyde and The Wedding Singer along with the musical revue of All Together Now during COVID-19, via live stream.
Currently they are rehearsing for their all-age performance for the Maryborough Community Bank Carols on December 16.
