Aged care services have grown to become a huge part of the Central Goldfields and surrounds, providing jobs and services for residents, and this week our local workers have been recognised for their dedication as part of Aged Care Employee Day.

The national day takes place on August 7 and celebrates the workers who provide care to the elderly.

Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) provides residential aged care in three campuses at Maryborough, Avoca and Dunolly, with a total of 94 beds across the three locations.

The health service also now provides a home support program for older residents in the community in the northern Pyrenees.

“Delivering great care takes a multi-disciplinary team made up of clinical and non-clinical staff,” MDHS director of aged care Jaimee Oxford said.

“This includes our dedicated nurses, personal care and home support workers, lifestyle, wellness and reablement teams, allied health staff, plus our education, training and quality improvement teams.

“Our teams in hospitality, building services and administration also work hard to ensure our residents eat well, can enjoy a well-maintained garden and take care of all the behind-the-scenes details which contribute to a home-like environment.”

MDHS’ residential care facilities have been awarded four and five star ratings through the My Aged Care government website, based on performance in relation to compliance, quality measures, the experience of residents and their families, and staffing.

“We take pride in the care and support we provide to our residents, families and carers,” Ms Oxford said.

“And to achieve these high ratings is great recognition of our team’s dedication to optimal resident care.”
