Regional sporting clubs and community groups around the Central Goldfields Shire are urged to apply for a new fund introduced by the Labor government.

The Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund (RCSIF) was opened last Tuesday by Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence, with up to $60 million of funding available.

There are four ways of earning investments.

Clubs can receive up to $3 million through the Indoor Stadium and Aquatic Facilities Stream, while $1 million can be earned through the Community Facilities Stream, helping clubs upgrade their sports facilities through lighting, club-rooms and play spaces.

A $1 million grant is also available through the Women and Girls Facilities, as well as a dedicated All Abilities Infrastructure stream which helps provide equal facilities.

In addition to the grants, a complimentary $50,000 grant is also on offer to help boost participation in communities through their upgraded facilities.

Ms Spence spoke about the importance of having regional communities such as the Central Goldfields Shire participate in the fund.

“Sport is really important to Victorians and this is especially true in our regional towns – this fund will ensure local sporting clubs have the best facilities and infrastructure to get everyone in their community involved,” she said.

“We have fantastic towns all over regional Victoria and local sporting clubs are a big part of a town’s identity — by upgrading their facilities and removing barriers to entry, even more people will be able to get involved with their local sporting club.

“Through the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund we are making sure regional Victorians of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and genders can be part of the big local sporting events that bring communities together.”

Clubs can apply by visiting sport.vic.gov.au.
