Clunes quickly established themselves as a one-day contender to watch later in the season, defeating previously unbeaten Carisbrook by five wickets.
It was a return in style to Bull Millgate Oval for the Magpies, chasing down a target of 151 with five overs to spare.
Carisbrook won the toss and elected to bat first. William Coutts moved himself from the middle order to open alongside Cole Harris, and the duo put on 19 for the first wicket before Ash Gunn struck, bowling Harris for seven.
Jarryd Coghlan was brought to the crease, and alongside Coutts, was able to put on 20 for the second wicket. However, Muhammad Shehzad soon struck, with Coghlan hitting a ball straight to Mitch Coppick for 12.
With Dean Nalder coming in, Carisbrook were soon able to settle into a rhythm. Nalder put on 28 runs for his part.
But Gunn’s re-introduction to the attack paid dividends in the best manner possible for Clunes, as his work helped slow down the pace.
First, he bowled Nalder for 28, and soon had enough when he removed Atticus Cullinan for a duck.
Jaxon Smyth would soon have the key wicket of Coutts for 33 when he hit a ball straight to Lachlan Morganti.
Caleb Cluff and James Adam helped put on 21 for the sixth wicket, but that was turned upside down by Gunn, who ran Cluff out for 12.
Gunn finished with his fourth wicket when he trapped Adam in front for LBW for 23, with Carisbrook making 7/150.
Clunes needed to get some quick runs to ensure that they would have the upper hand throughout the innings, but they were unable to get the start they wanted, with Morganti out for a duck with the score on four.
Anthony Ellis fared a little better, making 15 off 16 balls, but he was bowled by Harris to leave the Magpies 2/25.
However, Mark Allen and Coppick went to work to ensure the Magpies would have their way, with Allen making 33 and Coppick 55.
Allen was next to go, hitting a Harris delivery to Nalder, and Harris was on a hat-trick the very next ball when he left Josh Dunn swinging at a ball straight to Cooper Mark.
Coppick and Brendan Ingram steadied the ship, with Ingram adding some handy runs as they cruised towards the total.
Coppick wouldn’t be there for the end, however, as he hit a Willis ball straight to Elliot Cullinan.
However, it was Clunes’ day, as Ingram, alongside Fred Penhall, finished off the job.
