Just one A reserve game was played to round out the first half of the season, with Colts Phelans eventually getting through a dogged Beaufort team to win by seven wickets.

The Crows strengthened their lineup by giving some A grade players a chance to keep themselves involved with their batting and bowling, but it was not quite enough to prevent a strong Colts Phelans team from eventually breaking them down.

The opening bowling partnership of Beau Govan and Daniel McGregor made great progress early, getting the wickets of Nathan Elford and Ben Woolidge with the score on six.

Charlie Dyer and Kriss Ellis fought hard, with Ellis making 10 before he was dismissed by Govan.

When Nick Stabbins was bowled by Ethan Chaplin, the Crows were in trouble at 4/22.

However, Charlie Dyer and Malcolm Woolley put together one of their better partnerships for the day, the pair putting on 19 runs before Woolley was McGregor’s second victim.

Another couple of quick wickets fell for the Crows, before Dyer and Andrew Grant put on another 19-run partnership, which ended when Dyer’s gritty innings came to a close, top-scoring with 18.

The Crows would eventually finish their innings on 9/82 off their 40 overs.

McGregor was superb with the ball, taking 4/5 off his eight overs, while Govan took 2/16.

In response, it wasn’t a perfect start for Colts when Peter Egan had to retire on five, followed by Rhys Wagstaff holing out on six off the bowling of Grant.

Colts were soon 2/29 when Grant Rogers was caught, but the combination of Harrison Kurzke and Patrick Pritchard would soon guide them for the majority of their journey, with the latter top-scoring with 23 before he was caught out.

Kurzke and Ethan Chaplin finished the job, with Chaplin making a quick-fire 19 as Colts finished on 3/91 off their 33 overs.

Grant was the Crows’ best bowler, finishing with 2/15 off his seven overs, while Thomas Collins was their other wicket-taker, finishing with 1/23.

Meantime, the Red House Bakery 16 and under competition had its final day before the break, with Maryborough scoring an impressive 78-run victory over Carisbrook.

Brook made an encouraging start after losing the early wicket of Eric Wilkinson, with Elliott and Atticus Cullinan putting on a 38-run stand.

But Lachlan Roche and Kody Wright would make their stamp on the game with the ball, combining for the next four wickets for just 16 runs.

Brook looked like they would make a mini-fightback when Angus Morrison and Mitchell Stork would put on 27 runs, but Keegan Doherty and Wright ensured Brook would be bowled out for 92 off 31.5 overs.

Wright finished with 3/6 off four overs, Roche took 3/14 and Doherty took 2/19 to lead the way for the Owls.

In a thrilling encounter at RL Williams Oval, Laanecoorie Dunolly held on to defeat Colts Phelans by eight runs.

Colts lost their opening two wickets for just 36 runs, with Riley Govan and Hunter Kurzke dismissed, but the trio of Harrison Kurzke, Brett Coon and Oliver Erickson would soon engage in a 134-run stand. Kurzke retired when he made his 50, while Coon finished not out on 44. Erickson made 23, but was run out with the score on 170.

His dismissal triggered two more quick wickets as Colts’ brave chase of 183 came to an end, falling just short on 5/174.

Cooper Polinelli was Colts’ best wicket-taker, finishing on 2/19 off seven overs, while Lachie Condie took 1/8 off four overs.
