Avoca’s ant infestation has crawled to an end, with the project finishing on a high.

In the midst of ordinary two-dimensional insects pasted around town, were special Golden Ants — hidden out of sight, in obscure places.Students and families walked around Avoca searching for these glittery critters and a total of 35 Golden Ants were found.

Out of all the entries, three winners were selected at random — each getting a special prize. Two of these prizes were created by local artists, Jill Wyers and Deborah Bourke, who regularly exhibit their work in Avoca’s Gallery 127.

The MacMillan family — son Flynn and dad Luke — took out those artworks, each winning one prize.

The third winner of the project was Josh Gloury.

And with that, the tiny paper insects have officially retreated back to their colony.
