Woolworths Maryborough is once again putting out the call to locals to participate in a Dignity Drive to increase the number of free period care products available to those in need.

The drive supports organisation Share the Dignity which distributes sanitary items to those in need — including those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or doing it tough — working to end period poverty in Australia.

Woolworths first partnered with the organisation in 2019 and has run a number of Dignity Drives at the Maryborough store, with the latest kicking off on Wednesday this week.

This month’s drive aims to directly address period poverty and increase the number of freely available period care products across the state.

Woolworths Maryborough store manager Tony Byrne said he’s pleased locals are supporting the cause.

“We’re proud to continue our partnership with Share The Dignity and support the meaningful change they are creating,” he said.

“We would also like to thank all our Maryborough customers who have donated so far as their generous contribution has helped lessen the impact of period poverty in an already challenging time.”

Customers can purchase any period care product and donate it by dropping it in the pink collection boxes located at the front of the store, or make a cash donation at the registers.

Period care products including selected tampons and pads are on sale as part of the Woolworths weekly catalogue, encouraging customers to purchase an item to donate for those in need.

Woolworths will also donate five cents from each period care product sold during the drive to help support local community initiatives and Share the Dignity’s period product vending machines.

Share the Dignity VIC volunteer state team leader Donna Levinson-Murray said it’s been good to see Maryborough get on board with the drive.

“Our efforts across Maryborough are well and truly in motion to end period poverty and we are pleased to have the support of Woolworths to raise awareness and lessen the impact again this year, following a successful Dignity Drive in March,” she said.
