Council invites feedback
Mount Alexander Shire Council is working on plans to improve the streetscapes of smaller communities including Baringhup, Metcalfe, Sutton Grange and Fryerstown, with residents invited to share their input.
Streetscapes refer to the collective appearance of buildings, footpaths, gardens and landscaping along a street, and is a visual indication of a neighbourhood’s identity.
By improving streetscapes, council will maintain the beauty, functionality and characteristics of these small towns.
Suggested improvements include street furniture, plantings, parking, lighting, public art, access improvements, footpaths and town entrance features.
Improvements not within the scope of this project include the construction of roads and buildings.
Mount Alexander Shire Council’s mayor, Matthew Driscoll, said council is committed to maintaining and beautifying small towns.
“Our small towns are the heart and soul of our shire,” he said.
“We want to make sure they’re well cared for, practical, accessible and beautiful.
“That’s why we’re working with our community to make long-lasting improvements.
“In our previous small town streetscape projects, we installed bicycle racks, street furniture, trees, public art, bus shelters and lots more.
“Who better to ask about what needs a revamp than the residents of Metcalfe, Sutton Grange, Fryerstown and Baringhup?
“We have a very passionate and dedicated community, so I’m really excited to see what suggestions come through.”
