Cam McClure has continued his ascension as a cricketer to watch in the national system, recently being named in cricket.com.au’s list of best 25 players aged under 25.
McClure was named alongside some strong talents around the country, joining the likes of exciting Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, Josh Philippe, Victorian teammate Will Pucovski and New South Wales captain Jason Sangha.
Having broken into a strong Victorian bowling attack last season to make his first-class and List A debut in March, McClure has made a strong start to the 2022-23 season with a four-wicket haul to open the Second XI season against New South Wales two weeks ago, eventually ending up with 4/67 off his 21 overs.
McClure made the first two breakthroughs of the match, taking the wickets of Blake Nikitaras and Ryan Hackney, before playing his part in the Blues collapse from 1/144 by also taking the wickets of Arjun Nair and Ben Dwarshuis to leave them all out for 289.
Victoria’s first XI are currently competing in the One-Day Marsh Cup, while the second XI are playing four-day matches.
The next assignment for McClure will likely be a four-day second XI clash with Queensland, to be played from October 24-27.
