Residents will be given an insight into crime next weekend, as the Terry Floyd Foundation hosts an exclusive Q&A with a top homicide detective and an award winning journalist and crime writer.

Charlie Bezzina, Victoria Police’s former top homicide detective and Herald Sun journalist and crime writer Keith Moor are headlining the Insight Into Crime night next Saturday at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club.

The event is hosted by the Terry Floyd Foundation which was formed in honour of Terry Floyd, the 12-year-old Maryborough boy who was abducted and murdered in 1975, with funds raised to support projects aimed at school aged children across the district.

Both speakers will talk about high profile cases they’ve investigated, with the night to feature walkthroughs of murder scenes and information integral to solving cases.

This is the second time this event has been held in Carisbrook after the first was a resounding success in December 2018 and founder of the Terry Floyd Foundation, Daryl Floyd, said the Q&A is set to be another success.

“This is the fifth crime night we’ve run and previously we’ve had speakers like Ron Iddles and Gary Jubelin at these events, they’ve always been very popular,” he said.

“There was a lot of interest in bringing this event to Maryborough, we’ve held them in other parts of the state and locals were keen to see it brought to the area.

“This is also about bringing this event back to Terry’s hometown and raising awareness of his case.

“There will be information released about what’s going on in Terry’s investigation and where things are at there.

“There will also be a Q&A following the session and audience members are welcome to ask any questions they have.”

While information regarding Terry’s murder will be shared on the night, the event is separate from the ongoing investigation and Mr Floyd said money raised supports children in the district.

“We don’t want to confuse this with the mine search because the work of the foundation is completely separate — all the money raised on the night goes straight to the foundation which assists kids through our scholarship programs and initiatives,” he said.

“We’re raising money for the foundation through ticket sales, foundation merchandise and there’ll be a raffle running on the night as well.”

The Insight Into Crime event will take place next Saturday, April 29 at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club in Bucknall Street, Carisbrook.

Doors open at 6 for a 7 pm start, with a courtesy bus leaving from the bus stop in Clarendon Street at5.30 pm and again at 6 pm.Catering will be provided by the Carisbrook Lions Club.

Tickets are $40 per person and bookings for the night are essential and can be made to Daryl on 0402 125 551 or through the Terry Floyd Foundation Facebook page.
