Maryborough’s own Matthew Dellavedova is lapping up playing his part in the Australian Boomers set up as part of the Ford Ballin’ tour of Melbourne.

The Boomers are playing a pair of friendly games against China this week in an all-in format which sees all of Australia’s basketball teams playing at John Cain Arena, and Dellavedova has played his part coming off the bench.

In a stacked Australian team which included the likes of NBA players Josh Giddey, Dyson Daniels and Mattisse Thybulle, Dellavedova did his chances of making the team for the Paris Olympics no harm in the opening match of the carnival, in a game which saw the Boomers win 107-87.

Dellavedova recorded three points, four rebounds, a game-high seven assists and a block as he finished on a game-high +19 when he was on the floor, underlining his impact in his 14 minutes on the court.

The second match of the carnival was due to be played overnight at the time of production.

The carnival will be one of the last chances Dellavedova will have of putting his best foot forward to earn selection to the Paris Olympics, having previously played his part in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where he and Australia had won the bronze medal, as well as the Rio Olympics in 2016, where the Boomers finished fourth, and the London Olympics in 2012.
