Highland Tartan flexed their muscle to leave round eight as the only undefeated team in the competition.

The ladder leaders now sit 16 points in front of Talbot courtesy of a stunning 86-37 victory, which saw them take all points on offer.

Highland Tartan made a mockery of the closeness between the two teams, which was only percentage coming in, as they delivered a brilliant display of bowls.

Greg Shay defeated Robert Jackson 26-13, while Leanne Wallis defeated Ray Prentice 21-15. Andrew Brumby’s 39-9 win over Barb Crossley helped extend the margin of victory.

Maryborough Golf moved to within two points of Dunolly Blue in fourth position, courtesy of an 80-52 win over Dunolly Gold.

Jim Haigh gave Dunolly Gold a good start on the first rink with a 28-21 win over Liz Bucknall, but it was all Maryborough Golf otherwise, with Marian Webb defeating Alan Weir 34-10, and Kort Gay defeating Barry Mortlock 25-14.

Avoca remain in the fray to take a spot in the top four if anyone stumbles, but were made to work for victory against Newstead before eventually prevailing 54-49.

Avoca took the first rink, with Rebecca Zeuschner taking a 22-12 win over David Cobden, and Ann Loosmore kept their advantage with an 18-17 win over Stuart Cochrane. Newstead were able to hit back on the third rink, with Graeme Lipback winning 20-14 over Loralee Field, but it wasn’t enough to take the win, and they now sit on the bottom of the ladder.

Highland Gold, likewise, had to survive a fierce challenge from Carisbrook before taking a 59-55 win.

Dennis Prosser’s 26-13 win over Denise Matic gave Highland Gold just enough margin for error, which was needed in the wake of Judy Cassidy taking a 23-16 win over Adrian Masterman-Smith and Leonie Briggs’ 19-17 win over Corry Moss.

Round nine starts with an intriguing matchup between Talbot, who will now have the opportunity to bounce back, facing up against third-placed Dunolly Blue fresh off the bye at the Talbot Bowls Club.

Maryborough Golf could move to third, but will need to be wary of the threat of Avoca behind, especially as the two teams meet.

Highland Gold will look to take advantage of the two teams above them squabbling over fourth when they host bottom-placed Newstead, while top team Highland Tartan face eighth-placed Dunolly Gold.

Carisbrook will have the bye.
