There was double joy for Talbot Bowling Club as they swept the Champion of Champions divisions for 2023/24.

Matthew Vernon took the men’s title after a dominant campaign, which saw him defeat Newstead’s Bill Burnett in the final at the Highland Society, 25-16.

Vernon’s campaign saw him defeat Ross Gregory in the first round, 25-17, before a completely dominant semi final in which he defeated Keith Elliott 25-0.

In the women’s competition, Wendy Taylor was successful in claiming the title after a 25-19 win over Highland’s Leanne Wallis in the final.

Taylor defeated Ellen Howell in the first round 25-16, before a tight battle saw her prove too good for Maryborough Golf’s Michelle Harris, winning 25-20.

Two weeks ago, the Goldfields state singles’ tournament finals was also played, with Vernon also proving victorious in defeating Burnett 25-9.

In the ladies competition, it was Wallis who was able to be successful, defeating Harris to win 25-18.
