The Dunolly Field and Game Club will continue to operate after a successful Annual General Meeting held on Sunday, February 12.

The club were previously on the search for younger members who could serve on the committee, while also stepping up and utilising new technology that has arrived in the sport in recent years.

Dunolly Field and Game Club vice president Gordon Chalmers said people emphatically answered their call for more hands on deck.

“We had about 18 people there [at the Annual General Meeting], and that included seven people that had never been previously,” he said.

“I was extremely surprised to get so many people from outside interested before the meeting. We had seven show up on the day, and a few apologies as well. We certainly have a good groundswell of support to keep us going for the next little while.”

Terry Deason will be continuing on as president of the club, while Chalmers also noted the importance of securing a secretary, with Pauline Holland stepping up to perform that role.

“I feel very happy that we have been able to secure a new secretary and continue on. You never know how long that will be for, as it all has an expiry date, but we have secured our immediate future. I would hope we are looking okay for the next five years, but I won’t want to put a solid timeline out there as things can always change very quickly,” he said.

Alongside those appointments, Scott Crombie will be treasurer, while Leigh Raine was appointed to the role of hunting officer and safety. Richard Woolly will be the publicity officer.

Chalmers said it’s been a productive first week of operations from the new-look committee.

“Our new secretary and communications manager have stepped up and started doing things for the club. We had a working bee to ensure all our equipment is as fully operational as we can get it for our first shooting day next Sunday. They’re very keen and prepared to put their physical presence there and help us,” he said.

The club also celebrated the awarding of life membership to long-serving member Barrie Crombie.

Crombie has performed many different roles throughout his time at the club, including setting the ground, taking nominations, running shoot-offs and completing tasks that are asked of him.

Chalmers said that Crombie epitomised what the club was all about.

“Barrie has been there for much longer than I have. He is a remarkable bloke that keeps going on and on. Barrie loves his shooting and he’s a keen fisherman too. He just keeps doing things — you can’t stop him, no matter what. He would rather be out on the ground doing something to make the club better or our days run smoother than be sitting in the office doing paperwork,” he said.

“He does do some computer work, however, so he’s also very capable in the office. He’s always happy to be in among the trees as well and doing so much.”

With the immediate future of the club secure, the Dunolly Field and Game Club will now hold their first shoot day for the year on Sunday, February 26 at 11 am.
