Many astute judges would call Dunolly’s 49-point victory over Trentham at Deledio Reserve on Saturday arguably their best win for many, many years, with the Eagles dominating from start to finish to deliver the standout result they’ve been baying for.

Yes, the Saints were missing key personnel, but it mattered little, with Dunolly able to overwhelm the Saints’ midfield throughout the balance of the afternoon and score at will.

The opening quarter saw Dunolly take control of the contest, kicking five goals to one to take a 24-point lead at the first change.

It was a tighter second quarter, with Dunolly kicking three goals and Trentham two goals, but it was still enough to see the Eagles increase their lead, sitting 30 points clear at the main break.

The third quarter essentially decided the contest. It was party time for the Eagles, kicking five goals, while holding Trentham to just two, to increase the lead to 48 points at the final change.

Although the Saints continued to try and work their way into the game in the last quarter, every challenge was met by the Eagles as they ended up winning every quarter for the day, including an entertaining 12-goal last term which saw both teams add six goals to their tally.

Dunolly playing-coach Bailey Goodwin and Daniel Trull were the two best players on the ground, with their ability to break lines a feature of their game. Alongside the duo, Joshua Goodman, Michael Sjaardema, Jake Gavriliadis and Bailey Hall were also named in the best.

Jake Willcocks and Lloyd Needs finished off everything that was brought their way inside forward 50, kicking four goals apiece, while Mitchell Goodwin added three.

For Trentham, Zachary Gervasoni and Joel Cowan did what they could, with Cowan kicking three goals for the afternoon. Jake Keogh, Harrison Knight, Michael Hourigan and Joel Dovaston were also named in the best, while James Regan led the way for the Saints with four goals.
