Colts Phelans were in control for most of their Sunday afternoon, defeating Beaufort by seven wickets as they backed up their game against Laanecoorie Dunolly the day before.

While the Crows had their competitive moments, the bowling power of Colts Phelans proved to overpower them, before Rhys Egan finished off the job with the bat.

Beaufort made a competitive start, with Kriss Ellis and Blake Jantzen looking positive at the crease. They get the score up to 21 before Ellis was caught by Richard Clark off the bowling of Ben Stubbings.

Indeed, Stubbings would be chief destroyer of the Crows’ top order when called upon, taking Colts’ first four wickets. Craig Grant was next to go, bowled with the score of 46, before Jantzen was removed with a top score of 32.

Much of the Crows innings rested on the shoulders of Lachlan Oddie and Nicholas Cushing for a second day in succession, and got to work on building a 41-run partnership which allowed them to take the score up to 3/94. But when Cushing was given out lbw, it sparked a collapse, with Oddie bowled by Matt Scott soon after.

The Crows would lose their last seven wickets for just 15 runs, all out for 109 off 38.5 overs.

Stubbings took 4/29 off his eight overs, with both Scott and Clark took care of the rest of the order, with Scott taking 3/15 and Clark 2/16.

In response, Colts made a very positive start and were able to reach 34 runs very quickly, with the combination of Kane Shepherd and Wayne Stubbings looking to get a move on.

However, the game took a turn when Beaufort took two wickets in two balls. Firstly, Oddie took the wicket of Shepherd when he was trapped in front for lbw, before Joel Pymer bowled Stubbings the next ball to leave Colts on 2/34.

Rhys Egan then came out and combined with Ed Foreman for a 64-run partnership, which featured plenty of smart hitting from Egan in particular as he looked to continue pushing the run rate.

There was drama in the 18th over of the innings when both teams were called off as a heavy rain shower lashed Hedges Oval, but unlike yesterday, it was not enough to save the Crows, with just 12 runs required.

The Crows did throw caution to the wind, however, and were rewarded in the first ball after the break, with Foreman skying a ball off Pymer’s bowling and eventually being removed for 21 runs.

Egan finished the job, top-scoring with 43 runs, as Colts reached their target with 114 balls to spare.

Pymer was Beaufort’s best contributor with the ball, taking 2/22 off his seven overs.
