Getting ready to tee off its annual fundraising event, the Maryborough District Health Service’s (MDHS) Charity Golf Day will mark an important milestone when it swings into action next month.

Returning on March 21, the upcoming event will celebrate the decade long partnership between MDHS, True Foods and Maryborough Golf Club — with the three coming together for the past 10 years to raise funds for vital programs, services and equipment at the local hospital.

This year, the aim is to raise $30,000 for the purchase of a state-of-the-art simulation machine, which will improve training outcomes for the service’s healthcare workforce.

“[Our] Charity Golf Day has been a beacon of community support, rallying golf enthusiasts, businesses and community members to raise much needed funds,” MDHS CEO Nickola Allan said.

“This equipment will be instrumental in sharpening life-saving emergency care skills, ensuring our staff, and nursing and medical students are prepared to handle any situation with precision and confidence.”

With more than 100 people participating last time, MDHS raised nearly $26,000 — which was used to improve the home-style kitchen and dining experience for residents at Wattle Rise Maryborough.

Over the years, the impact of the charity-centred day have been wide-reaching, allowing for the procurement of the Cancer Care car and Wellness in Motion van for patient transport, as well as cutting-edge mammography equipment.

Ms Allan puts these achievements down to the trio’s ongoing collaboration.

Since True Foods, a locally based Australian-owned food manufacturer, joined as a major partner in 2014, the alliance has raised more than $200,000 to facilitate improvements to healthcare services in the Central Goldfields region.

“The impact of this collective effort can be seen right across the community,” Ms Allan said.

According to True Foods managing director Mark Thurlow, the company is proud of its involvement, noting the tangible impact the event has on healthcare services.

“We all take pride in supporting the great work done by MDHS and love the supportive and inclusive feeling that comes from the collaborative spirit of the day,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase what the Maryborough community is all about, and give back to this wonderful town.”

The Maryborough Golf Club will host the Ambrose event and the facility’s captain Dave Kerry said it was going to be an exciting time for all.

“It’s important for us to work together to help MDHS with their major fundraiser,” he said.

“Participants can look forward to a day of excitement and goodwill, with opportunities to showcase their golfing skills.”

Attendees will be able to compete for various honours such as winning team, nearest to the pin, straightest drive and the coveted $1200 hole-in-one competition.

There will also be prizes up for grabs in the raffle or through winning bids in the auction.

“Come and join us for a great cause whether you’re a seasoned golfer, interested in joining a team or simply looking to give back to your local community,” Mr Kerry said.

“The golf course is looking absolutely spectacular this year. It’s probably the best it’s ever been, thanks to the staff and volunteers that put in the long hours to look after it.”

The event starts with breakfast and registration at 8 am, before a shotgun start at 9 am.

Bookings are required and the registration fee of $65 per player includes green fees, breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea.

For non-players who still want to join in the fun, a new $25 option is available, including lunch from 12 to 1 pm.
