NEWSTEAD (33) def by NAVARRE (50)

Navarre underlined their status as a potential improver by recording a 17-goal win over Newstead.

A dominant second and final quarter was the tonic the Hoppers needed to take control of the game.

It was an even first quarter, with both teams scoring 10 times to leave the first quarter level.

But the Hoppers completely took control in the second quarter, scoring on 18 occasions, while Newstead were held to a seven-goal quarter as they trailed 17-28 at the main break.

The third quarter was a mirror image of the first quarter, with both teams again scoring 10 goals. However, this time, while Newstead were trying to get back into the game, they were being repelled at every opportunity by Navarre.

The Hoppers cemented their win by adding 12 goals in the final quarter, while conceding just six goals.

It was an even performance across the board from the Hoppers, with Darcy Crawford scoring 29 goals, while Erin Chisholm added 21.

For Newstead, Verity Gartside added 22 goals, while Bri Jury scored 11 for the afternoon.
