Festive grants open
A series of grants to help local communities celebrate the festive season are available in the Mount Alexander Shire.
Council has made $500 grants available to small towns in the shire including Campbells Creek, Harcourt and Baringhup as well as a total $1500 for both Maldon and Newstead.
The grants can be put towards outdoor decorations, community events, Santa visits, barbecues, music and other celebrations.
Mount Alexander Shire mayor, Matthew Driscoll, said council is proud to support community celebrations.
“No one celebrates Christmas with more enthusiasm than Mount Alexander Shire residents,” he said.
“Every year our towns decorate, host community events and even invite Santa to do the rounds.
“Our community told us that Christmas decorations and celebrations are important to them, and they wanted support when it came to celebrating this time of year.
“We listened, and so we’ve allocated funding for Christmas celebrations to our budget.”
Cr Driscoll said the grants would help liven up the shire over the festive season.
“We’re proud to support these events and activities with Christmas grants, and help spread the festive cheer,” he said.
“Applications are open for a whole month, so there’s plenty of time to get together as a community and put in an application.
“I’m excited to see what celebrations happen across the shire this year.”
Grant applications open next Monday, August 5 and close on Monday, September 2.
The application form is quick and simple, and available at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/Grants, along with guidelines and more details.
