Final game of 2024 for Maryborough Soccer Club
Maryborough will go into their final game of the season against Vic Park hoping to reprise their win from round nine after finding some much-improved form.
After only taking until the last kick of the game to lose to Vikings, the blue-and-whites took on Forest Rangers last week, having lost 15-1 in their last meeting, and immediately took it right up to the contenders.
Goals to Luke Bucknall and David Scofield gave Maryborough the impetus going into half time, and they were able to lead 2-1.
But Forest Rangers came out fired up, determined to ensure they wouldn’t be upset, and were able to score four goals in the second half, driven by a Michael Lockyer hat-trick, to ensure that they would win 5-2 and maintain their premiership challenge.
The result means the blue-and-whites are consigned to finish on the bottom, but it has very much been a much improved season.
They’ll now be hoping to take a second win against Vic Park, having won 2-1 in their previous meeting in round nine.
Vic Park does come in to this game in some good form, however, having won 4-1 against Creswick last week.
In the under 14 competition, Maryborough took a thrilling 4-3 win against Ballarat White to move to within three points of fifth position.
The blue-and-whites seventh win of the year means they cannot finish any lower than sixth, a superb effort.
With scores level at 2-2 at the half, a further two goals to one ensured Maryborough would take the points, with Darcy Wood scoring a brace, while Sebastian Sayson also scored.
Maryborough will now travel to Sebastopol to take on Vikings Blue.
The final under nines games of the season sees Maryborough Blue host Ballarat North United Black, while Maryborough Gold will host Bacchus Marsh Yellow.
