The final round of A reserve for 2023 will be held this weekend, before the competition moves into the 2024 calendar year.

Clunes V Talbot

Talbot travel to Clunes for a showdown between second and third.

It’s the second scheduled showdown in two weeks for the Yabbies, who were due to play Maryborough in a game between the top two teams in the competition, but were unable to take the field due to rain.

In the meantime, Clunes were scheduled to play MKM, but likewise, their game was called off.

Both teams have been quite similar at this early stage of the season, with their quotient separated by just 0.055.

Clunes average 176 runs with the bat, with Talbot averaging 172, while both have taken wickets at regular intervals, with Talbot taking 29 from three games, and Clunes 37 from four — the most in the competition.

Clunes’ Muhammad Shehzad vaulted to the top of the A reserve wicket-taking charts in his last game, taking 5/17 two weeks ago, while for Talbot, Jack Kenden’s seven wickets and Lachlan Roche’s six leads the way.

MKM V Colts Phelans

A Derby Road clash is on the agenda, with Colts making the very short trip to Mr Mobility Oval to take on MKM.

MKM will be hoping to get on the board for the season, but will need to nullify the threat of Colts’ excellent batting lineup, spearheaded by competition leading runscorer Dean Walker, who boasts 209 runs.

Dan McGregor has also been terrific, scoring 128 runs and taking five wickets so far.

The Mill have had some entertaining games this season, and have been in the thick of many of their games, but haven’t quite been able to string it all together as yet.

Lewis Patten is having a good season, scoring 75 runs and taking five wickets.

Maryborough V Natte Yallock

Top four teams Maryborough and Natte Yallock meet in a crucial encounter.

The Owls have been superb to start the year with four consecutive wins, although they would be disappointed not to put their good form to the test against fellow undefeated team Talbot last week.

Natte Yallock will also look to bounce back from their first loss of the season, after going down to Colts Phelans two weeks ago.

The Owls have been entertaining with the bat in the early stages of the season, with Lachlan Bursill, Marc Cassidy, James Scott and Bradey Tranter combining for 465 runs, while for Natte Yallock, Evan Elliott is having a standout season in the early stages, taking six wickets and scoring 115 runs.

Carisbrook V Beaufort

Carisbrook will be looking for their second win of the season, while Beaufort will be looking to break through for their first win of the year.

It should be an intriguing encounter, with both teams steadily improving despite their relative inexperience.

Carisbrook young gun Elliot Cullinan has had a terrific start to the season, leading their batting and their bowling with 57 runs and six wickets.

For Beaufort, captain Andrew Grant is one of six batsmen who has scored over 100 runs for the year, with 128 — accounting for 26 percent of the Crows runs for the season in the early stages.
