Maryborough Giants continued their dominant start to the season, sweeping Harcourt aside to win by 39 goals, and keeping the pressure on Avoca in the early race for the minor premiership.

It was a dominant showing from the Giants, who were able to lead right from the outset against an inexperienced Lions team still seeking its first victory of the season.

The Giants started well, scoring 12 goals to three to open up a nine-goal lead at the end of the first term. Annalyse Carroll scored nine goals, while Abbey Raven added three for the Giants, while for the Lions, Tegan McKay added all three goals.

It was much of the same in the second quarter, with the Giants continuing to assume control, scoring 19 goals to nine to maintain a 31-12 lead at the main break. Carroll was dominating under the goal circle, scoring 15 goals, while Raven added four, while for the Lions, McKay added four and Christine Webb scored five.

The Giants continued on their merry way in the third term, adding 18 goals to six to make it a 49-18 lead going into the last change. Carroll continued what was turning into a great day, scoring all 18 goals for the Giants in the quarter, while McKay and Webb scored three goals each for the Lions.

Both teams eased their way home, with the Giants adding 12 goals to four in the final term. Carroll finished up her day with seven goals to make it 51 for the day, while Raven added four and Laura McStravick scored one, while for the Lions, McKay scored three goals and Jess Chaplin one.

The Giants will now be determined to continue their winning streak when they host Dunolly, while Harcourt will travel to Maldon as they seek their first win of the season.
