CARISBROOK 12.11 (83) def NAVARRE 5.8 (38)

Carisbrook defeated Navarre in a comfortable manner which was set up in the opening quarter as the Redbacks won by 45 points.

Leading goalkicker Anthony Zelencich was key to the damage, kicking four opening-quarter goals on his way to a five-goal haul, and 79 for the season.

Both teams lost a player each in the opening term when a hard physical clash resulted in two stretchers being called, but both Tom Gardam for Carisbrook and Harry Bigmore for Navarre walked off the ground aided by trainers — both were unable to play the remainder of the game.

Despite only one goal being scored in the second term, Carisbrook posted five behinds in a row before Zelencich kicked his fifth goal of the game.

Forward entries in the second quarter were rare for Navarre, resulting in just two behinds.

It was goal for goal in the third term with both teams scoring three goals each which saw Carisbrook maintain the 28-point lead they had at half time.

Carisbrook ran away in the final term as Zak Rinaldi kick started the stanza with the first two goals in succession. Once again, the ball hardly entered the Navarre scoring zone, and it was Billy Driscoll that kicked a checkside goal for the Grasshoppers’ only score in the final term.

Carisbrook named Zak Rinaldi as their best player along with Andrew Toan, Ash Munari across half back, Nick Wright, Harry Butler, and Cohen Leech.

Navarre’s Jayden and Josh Fowkes were again in the best players as was Driscoll, Shannon Treloar, Bryce Tickner and Brady Tillig.
