A woman in her 70s was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a two-vehicle collision in Flagstaff on Tuesday.
A section of the Pyrenees Highway was closed for three and a half hours as police, ambulance, SES and Maryborough Fire Brigade attended the scene of the collision at around 3.50 pm, involving a white Ford Falcon utility and a white Subaru wagon.
All people involved in the incident suffered injuries, with two men transported to the Ballarat Base Hospital, one man transported to Bendigo Health and a woman, aged in her 70s, airlifted to a Melbourne hospital in a critical condition with injuries to her upper and lower body.
As of yesterday afternoon, The Alfred confirmed the woman remains in a critical condition.
Central Goldfields Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Anthony Passalick said investigations into the collision are ongoing.
“Investigations into the crash are in the early stages, but it appears that the Ford Falcon utility crossed onto the wrong side of the road and it appears that fatigue may have been an issue,” he said.
“Both drivers were elderly males, the passenger in the Ford Falcon utility was an elderly male and in the Subaru wagon there was an elderly female.”
Led Sen Con Passalick urges residents to be aware of the dangers of fatigue while driving.
“Anyone that is out driving needs to make sure that they have adequate rest before getting behind the wheel,” he said.
“If there are any other witnesses to the collision we encourage them to come forward and contact local police.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash, has dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Maryborough Police on 5460-3300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
