An opportunity to participate in a virtual grow-along with Australian gardening personality Costa Georgiadis is headed to the Central Goldfields Shire.
Healthy Loddon Campaspe has partnered with Grow It Local — a grass roots mission to get more people growing their own food — to encourage and educate residents across the region about healthy eating, cooking and growing.
Central Goldfields Shire Council, Healthy Loddon Campaspe and Grow It Local have this month launched the autumn edition of the Grow It Local Seed Service which sees residents sign up to receive free seeds and instructions to grow their own food plant, and then create a meal from it.
This edition is Greek-inspired with heirloom seed varieties including kale (black Toscana), rainbow chard and spinach (Bloomsdale) to grow and recreate Costa’s great grandma’s spanakopita recipe.
“Healthy Loddon Campaspe is delighted to announce this first-of-its-kind regional partnership with Grow It Local,” Healthy Loddon Campaspe coordinator Alicia O’Brien said.
“Results from the 2019 Active Living Census told us that only one in eight adults in our region meet the daily vegetable consumption guidelines.
“By partnering with Grow It Local, we hope to create a fun and easy way for residents in our region to get involved in growing, cooking and eating local healthy produce.”
Local residents, businesses, schools and community groups across the region can register for the Grow It Local Seed Service at www.growitlocal.com/stores/free-seed-service
Step-by-step instructions and support are included in the program.
