Ginnivan and Lohmann in 22under22 squad for 2024

The 40-player squad was selected thanks to chair of selectors Leigh Montagna, as well as support from the AFLPA and Champion Data.

As the name suggests, the final team will be made up of a selection of 22 players under the age of 22, rewarding the best young talents in the competition.

Newstead product Ginnivan will be vying for his second appearance in the team, having earned selection on a half forward flank in 2022 in a season where he would kick 40 goals for Collingwood.

Since his move to Hawthorn in the 2023/24 off-season, Ginnivan has been one of the Hawks’ most consistent players, averaging 17 disposals per game — a career-high, as well as kicking 23 goals for the season, playing predominantly further up for the ground.

That has helped see the Hawks move into the top eight with two rounds to go, an incredible achievement considering they started with one win from seven matches.

For Maryborough product Lohmann, this is his first appearance in the 22 under 22 squad, which has come after solidifying his spot in Brisbane’s best 22 this season.

Having played all 21 of the Lions’ games as they’ve re-established themselves as a premiership contender in 2024 after a slow start, Lohmann has been a constant threat, collecting 11 disposals per game, while kicking 22 goals, while also sitting equal-seventh at the club for most tackles with 63.

Lohmann is one of 25 players who are making their first 22 under 22 appearance.

Both Ginnivan and Lohmann have been selected as forwards in the squad, with 11 separate forwards selected.
