Flamboyant Newstead local Jack Ginnivan will bring up his 50th AFL game this weekend when Hawthorn takes on the Western Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

Ginnivan’s 49 games in the AFL has been one of plenty of personality, with the forward never far from the headlines throughout his time at Collingwood, which saw him rewarded with a premiership medal in the Magpies’ four-point victory over Brisbane in the 2023 grand final, before he was traded to Hawthorn in last year’s trade period.

However, his move to the Hawks has been beneficial in many aspects, and he is putting up career-best numbers in many different areas of his game, including disposals (13.7 per game) and tackles (2.7 per game), while kicking eight goals from seven games thus far.

While the Hawks have been struggling, with just one win from seven games, it is certainly not the fault of Ginnivan.

Ginnivan has established himself as a big-game player early in his career, with one of his highlights coming in his 10th game in 2022, kicking five goals and securing the Anzac Medal, as well as the three Brownlow Medal votes, in a best-on-ground performance in Collingwood’s win over Essendon.

That performance was one of nine occasions Ginnivan has kicked three or more goals in a game, highlighting his penchant for being a goalsneak.
