For theatre lovers, the finest Australian actors, musicians and performers bring classics and new shows to life in iconic Bendigo buildings such as The Capital, Ulumbarra Theatre, the Engine Room, Dudley House exhibition space and the Bendigo Town Hall. Throughout the year BV&E also bring live shows to smaller theatres throughout the district.

BV&E is a business unit of the City of Greater Bendigo with a mission to deliver regional Australia’s most dynamic performing arts programs and cultural activity. Throughout spring, audiences have a range of entertainment to choose from.

Fans of artists such as Colin Haye, Casey Donovan, Bill Bailey, Kitty Flanagan, Michael Veitch, Ash Grunwald and Jimmy Carr don’t have to travel to Melbourne to see their favourite acts as they bring their shows to Bendigo.

For lovers of live music, there is something to suit every taste. The Victorian Orchestra, acclaimed pianists, jazz ensembles and tribute bands will all take the stage in spring. Theatre comes to life with a range of plays and musicals performed by some of Australia’s finest actors from the whimsical Margaret Fulton the Musical to the human drama of 12 Angry Jurors.

Bendigo is just a 90-minute drive from Melbourne via the Calder Freeway, or travel in comfort on a V-Line train from Southern Cross Station.

As well as world-class performances, audiences can experience the history of Bendigo in locations such as the Ulumbarra Theatre. A redevelopment of the Sandhurst Gaol – first opened in 1863 – today the theatre has become a modern arts and events venue that fuses heritage-listed 1860s penitentiary architecture and contemporary design.

The Capital in Bendigo shares a similar history dating back to 1873, when it was originally built as the Sandhurst Masonic Hall. National Trust-listed building has been carefully renovated to include all modern-day comforts while retaining the ornately decorated interiors reflecting the gold rush wealth of the mid-1800s.

An annual subscription to Bendigo Venue and Events offers patrons exclusive offers on tickets as well as discounts, up-to-date information, a quarterly newsletter and season launch invitations. To take in a show on your next trip to Bendigo, go to: www.bendigoregion.com.au/arts-culture-theatres
