A terrific first season from Keely Hare in the Western Australian Football League Women’s (WAFLW) competition has seen her rewarded with the coaches award at Peel Thunder for the 2024 season.
Hare made the move to join brother, Aidan, at the Thunder to further her footy, having previously played in the Central Victorian Football League for Golden Square, while also playing high-quality netball for Maryborough on a weekly basis.
From 13 games, Hare’s craft saw her move into the ruck, where she would constantly improve throughout the season.
While Peel Thunder would eventually finish on the bottom of the ladder with one win, it was a great opportunity for Hare to take her chance, and has been rewarded by her coaching staff.
Arguably her best performance came in round 14 against Claremont, with Hare enjoying a dominant performance in the ruck with 12 disposals, 31 hitouts and three tackles.
Another terrific performance would come in round 16 against Swan Districts, collecting an equal-season-high 13 disposals, four tackles, two marks and 30 hitouts.
Hare would finish the season averaging 9.8 disposals and 15.6 hitouts per game, while also kicking a goal in round 11 against East Perth.
Aidan, for his part, is continuing his fine form for Peel Thunder which saw him rewarded with a second league game against East Fremantle after making his debut in round 12, with his most recent performance seeing him collect 17 disposals and nine tackles in Peel’s 23-point loss to East Fremantle.
